Lori Kay Farr
Lori Kay Farr is a mosaic artist and designer that creates intricate detailed artworks using brightly colored glass tesserae. After earning her degree from Bowling Green State University in environmental design, she spent 16 years teaching art in the Cincinnati Ohio area. In 2002 Lori began working with stained glass and tiles to create beautiful mosaics and in the last 18 years, her passion for mosaics has grown to become one of her primary forms of artistic expression. Her mosaic style is a wide ranging from whimsical and colorful abstracts to realistic intricate animal and architectural mosaics. Most of her mosaics are created from stained glass and glass tiles that reflect the light and color. The texture and depth that can be created in mosaics is one reasons she embraced the medium of glass.
Starting in 2012, Lori was selected to work with Cincinnati ArtWorks on several projects: the Big Pig Gig, ArtRx, and a outdoor mural entitled “TAPESTRY: Community Woven Together” on Warsaw Ave in Price Hill, Ohio. In 2016, Lori became a mosaic instructor at the Fitton Center of the Creative Arts. She teaches a variety of classes, workshops and summer camps. Her mosaics have been in several exhibitions including the Currents and Members show at the Fitton Center. In July 2017, she became a mural artist with StreetSpark to create a large painted mural entitled “Delicate Balance of Progress” in Hamilton, Ohio. In October 2017, Lori’s mosaic artwork was part of a group show entitled KALEIDOSCOPE at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts.
Spring of 2019, Lori was selected to create a 6’ tall Hero Bearcat for the University of Cincinnati, “One Giant Pounce for Bearcats Nation” is a full mosaic Bearcat that is an astronaut. In Fall of 2019, she was selected to create a bourbon barrel and barrel head for the Northern Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Project. She has worked with students from the Ludlow, Kentucky schools to create three mosaic public art benches.
Lori’s mosaics have been juried into numerous shows over the past few years. Her mosaics are in numerous private collections throughout the USA and UK.
